Irvine Spectrum Aerial

Spectrumotion is a free, non-profit, rideshare association that helps employees, residents, students, employers and property owners with their commute to the Irvine Spectrum area.

ABOUT SPECTRUMOTION

Formed to assist Irvine Spectrum Area commuters and residents find ways to commute to work that are:

  • More environmentally friendly
  • Less expensive
  • Less stressful
  • Faster
  • More convenient than driving alone

Additionally, we assist progressive Irvine Spectrum employers who understand that commute assistance is an employee benefit. The nonprofit is supported solely by Irvine Spectrum property owners. Because of this, all of our services to commuters, employers and property managers are absolutely free.

SERVICE AREA

Spectrumotion serves the business park known as the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, California. We refer to it sometimes as the Irvine Spectrum Area because many confuse it with the Irvine Spectrum Center, the large retail center located at the center of the Irvine Spectrum business park.

The Irvine Spectrum is actually comprised of over 29,000,000 square feet of office, retail, and industrial/commercial space. It’s home to approximately 116,000 employees/commuters.

Anyone who commutes to, or lives in, the Irvine Spectrum – regardless of where they commute from or to – can take advantage of our services free of charge. Likewise, our services are free to any business located in Irvine Spectrum that wants to bring commute benefits to their employees or tenants.

Our History

The formation of Spectrumotion, formally known as the Irvine Spectrum Transportation Management Association, represents a true milestone in the management of local area traffic.

In 1985 The Irvine Company and the City of Irvine, in the true spirit of public/private partnership, devised an overall traffic management and monitoring strategy for the Irvine Spectrum business park. It called for the creation of a Transportation Management Association (TMA) to monitor local area traffic, and to develop programs and incentives to help reduce traffic.

To make this happen, deed restrictions known as Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (C, C, & R’s) were created. These restrictions require all Irvine Spectrum business park property owners to financially support the TMA through property assessments – the same funding mechanism as a homeowners association. This is how Spectrumotion can offer its services for free to commuters, employers and property managers.

In 1986, Spectrumotion opened its doors. Today, it is a nationally recognized industry leader in traffic reduction and commute assistance.

Awards

Our organization and our individual programs have been recognized many times by related organizations and partners in the transportation industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Irvine Spectrum is an area of Irvine that is comprised of over 29,000,000 square feet of office, retail, industrial/commercial, and residential development. It is sometimes confused with the Spectrum Center which is a retail/entertainment destination at the center of the larger Irvine Spectrum Area.

Spectrumotion is a Transportation Management Association funded solely by the property owners in the Irvine Spectrum Area. It works the same way a homeowners association does in a residential neighborhood. The only difference is that our mission is to reduce traffic congestion rather than maintain common areas. We do not charge commuters or employers for individual services due to this unique funding arrangement.

Spectrumotion guarantees that we only use your information to provide you with commute alternatives. We do not share your information with other organizations or sell mailing lists. We understand the need for you to feel secure that the information you provide us is not going to generate annoying junk mail or telemarketing phone calls. Privacy Policy

Yes and no. Ridesharing is a general term encompassing many alternatives to driving alone. Carpooling, vanpooling, riding the train or bus, biking, walking, and telecommuting are all forms of ride-sharing.

There are many reasons:

  • Increased Productivity: Employees arrive at work more rested and less stressed leading to higher productivity.
  • Decreased Usage of Sick Time: Less stress creates healthier employees overall.
  • Higher Morale and Increased Employee Retention: Employees view your assistance as a benefit, increasing morale and tenure with the company.
  • Tax Benefits for Both the Employer and Employee: Commuter Choice tax regulations offer benefits to both employers and commuters for rideshare assistance programs.

Spectrumotion services and programs are already paid for, so why not!

Have you heard about our Emergency Ride Home Program? You are eligible for a free ride home if an emergency arises and you are unable to rideshare home. The rules are very liberal and cover almost anything that might occur. You can also be notified about contests and promotions that you are eligible for as a ridesharer. From time to time, you’ll have the opportunity to win some great prizes just for continuing to rideshare.

Spectrumotion offers Start-Up Incentives because we are confident if you give a rideshare mode a try, you won’t go back to driving alone. Our data shows that more than 90 percent of those that receive our free trial period continue to rideshare. We currently have Start-Up Incentives for trying the Metrolink train, OCTA bus, or a vanpool.
